THE California Japanese American Alumni Association's Scholarship Program recognizes the noteworthy achievements of Japanese-American students attending the University of California. Our scholarships are designed to promote scholastic achievement and community service, as well as assist students with the increasing costs of education. Approximately eight to ten awards up to $3,000 are awarded each year.

To apply for the 2007-08 upcoming academic year, please see the scholarship instructions and submit an application by the deadline below.

ELIGIBILITY
American citizens of Japanese ancestry who are entering, returning or continuing undergraduate or graduate students at any University of California campus. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is recommended, but all others are encouraged to apply (especially those with a strong community service record). Recipients who have previously received a CJAAA Scholarship of $1,000 or more are NO longer eligible.
AWARD CRITERIA
Awards of varying amounts will be awarded on the basis of scholarship, contribution to the community, personal attributes and financial need (in that order). One-half of the funds will be disbursed after verification of enrollment for the first academic semester/quarter. The second installment will be awarded upon verification of enrollment in the following semester/quarter.
DEADLINE
Applications are due by April 15, 2008 for the upcoming academic year.

Beginning in 1998, scholarships were opened to students in all academic disciplines. It is our hope to increase the number of recipients while raising the scholarship standards and encouraging the development of future Japanese-American leaders. CJAAA Scholarship Committee members include Mark Abey, Jesse Ante, Carrie Kojimoto, Ken Suyama, Neal Taniguchi, Emiko Yamada, and Katherine Yoshii.
