In November 1999, the California Japanese Alumni Association held its Northern California Scholarship Awards Luncheon at Yoshi's restaurant in Oakland. Presentations were made to scholarship award winners Jesse Nishinaga (UC Berkeley), Ted Nakamura (UC Berkeley) and Donna Eck (UCSF). Lesley Siler (UC Santa Barbara) could not attend due to finals, but her mother and grandmother received her award on her behalf. Congratulating the recipients were CJAAA scholarship committee members and officers Jesse Ante, Ron and Emiko Yamada, Carrie Kojimoto, Andrew Urushima and Trevor Nakagawa.
CJAAA plans to hold a similar luncheon during this academic year for Southern California scholarship winners. They include Charlene Sakoda (UC Riverside), Nathan Haga (UC San Diego) and Ann Miyagi (UCLA). Another recipient, Greg Sato (UC Berkeley), is currently spending a year in Japan on the UC Education Abroad Program.
Congratulations, again, to each of our scholarship award recipients!
